This is Kristina and her fiance. Kristina has her own photography business, Kaptured by Kristina. I love to photograph photographers. We did this mini session on a really cold day back in December (yes there were a few cold ones back then:)), so I had them snuggle up nice and close, and we got some really cute shots. We also took a ton of warm up breaks. I think we spent just as much time in the car warming up as we did actually shooting. Here are just a few from our session.

best friends engagement - Saskatoon photography

This is my best friend and her fiance. They got engaged Dec 23rd, 2010. He called me and asked me to do some family photos of them with his 2 children. He also said that during our photos he is going to propose. Of course, I was thrilled for her (she didn't have a clue!), and even more thrilled that I was able to be there to witness my bff get engaged! So there we were in the middle of our photo shoot and he drops onto one knee and popped the question. She cried. I cried. It was awesome!!!

Fast forward to exactly one year from that date and we did these, their official engagement session. We were supposed to do them in Calgary (where they live) when I was there a month or two prior, but the day we had scheduled to do them, downtown Calgary was closed due to hurricane winds. I think the only time downtown Calgary has ever been closed and it happens to be when I have a shoot booked there. LOL. They were planning on coming back to Saskatoon for Christmas, so we rescheduled for then, exactly one year from the day they got engaged. The weather was going to be so mild, it was perfect. A couple of days prior to that, she sprained her ankle so bad she couldn't walk. She didn't want to reschedule, so she was a trouper and hobbled around on her crutches. She even wore heels!

I have to say I'm so happy for my best friend. It's obvious these two were meant for each other. They didn't stop laughing the entire time we spent together. I wish I could shoot their wedding but I will have a more important job... to stand beside her as her maid of honour while she says her vows. Needless to say I can't wait for her big day and to stand up for her and watch as she marries her other best friend, the love of her life:).

I photographed this little man's mom and dad's wedding a couple of years ago. I was thrilled when I got the email saying they were expecting their first baby. I was even more thrilled when I got to meet him! He did great for his first photo shoot. Something about new babies gets me every time. I think even more so now that I have my own. It's such a special time and I'm so thankful when I get to capture it.

I find that clients are never sure what they should print and put up in their home, so I thought I would share just one sample of what's in our home. This is what I did in Rylie's room. I took a 16x20 image from our maternity session and one from her newborn session and framed them in frames that I already had (I'm always buying frames, so yes, I just had these two lying around:)). I framed them nice and close above her change table. I love the way it looks! We get so many compliments on them. These aren't even all that large, but just large enough for that space.

This isn't the greatest photo, and the reflections in the glass are awful, but you get the idea:).

Trash the Dress for Charity event - Children's Hospital foundation of Saskatchewan

Last October, myself and 6 other top photographers from Saskatoon and area, all members of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), organized our second annual trash the dress for charity event. It was a huge success! First and foremost I would like to thank all of our beautiful brides who participated. Together we raised over $4400 for the Children's Hospital foundation of Saskatchewan! Thank you to all the fabulous photographers who donated their time and talent to this cause; Gina's portraits, Danielle Stasiuk Photography, Stuart Kasdorf Photographics, Stobbe photo, Grant Romancia Photography, Vanessa Savage Photography, and of course myself, Memories by Mandy photography.

The pampering started a week before the big day at Just for you day spa. On the big day, they arrived at Unique Look hair design to get their hair done by their fabulous stylists. They also had their makeup done by Make-up In Motion, 13 Stars make up, Kendal Kayter and Crysta Coates. Didn't they do a great job? Wild Cuisine Catering provided a delicious lunch for our lovely ladies. Once they were all dolled up Living Skies Limousine picked them up and chauffeured them around for the day. We arrived at the first location, Ebon Stables, where they were each given a bouquet. Michelle's flowers provided our flower bouquets and Sight for Style Designs provided the feather bouquets. They were a huge hit!

We arrived at the second location, a grungy downtown area. Sova Designs provided the stunning head piece that the brides were fortunate enough to wear in some of the shots. Lastly, we made it to the last location, the riverbank. All of the brides were up for going right in the water despite the cool temperatures. They were all troupers! I just went in up to my ankles and couldn't feel my feet, so I can only imagine how my bride felt when she was completely submerged in the water!

Needless to say, it was an amazing day! Another huge thank you to all of our lovely brides for participating. Also, an enormous thank you to all of our fabulous vendors who donated 100% of their products/services so 100% of the proceeds could go to this lovely cause!

Filipino wedding - Saskatoon wedding photographers

This is one of the sweetest couples I have ever met. They had a traditional Filipino wedding, which was my first! They have some really unique traditions in their wedding ceremony's like the exchanging of the coins, among other things. It was very cool to see, and although it was similar in some ways to western weddings, it was so neat to see them incorporate their culture in their wedding ceremony.

I think I posted waaayyyy too many images from their day, but I really wanted to show off the story of their day, so I did narrow it down a bit (I originally had over 75 images picked out, lol). I don't really post too many images from ceremonies, and after chatting with another photographer, he said you can tell a lot about a photographer by their ceremony shots, so I thought I would include more than usual:).

Our day started out at the hotel where the groom was getting ready. I snapped a few shots of the guys and then headed over to the brides home where she was getting ready. They got the owner of an old school ford truck to chauffeur them around for the day. Talk about a sweet ride! We got to the ceremony where there was a wonderful buzz in the air. Once their traditional Filipino ceremony came to an end we snapped a few family photos, then headed downtown for the group shots.

We let the wedding party go have some drinks and stole the bride and groom for the romantic stuff. We went to Broadway where the Broadway street fair was going on. What a great day to go down there for wedding photos! Huge thank you to the Broadway Cafe for letting us shoot there, and for buying the bride and groom a milkshake! Lastly, we went to a park, where the lighting was amazing. It felt like it was right out of a fairytale.

We went skating this afternoon.... OK, let me rephrase that.... this lovely couple went skating this afternoon while I clicked away. This is something different that I don't normally do. A little girl wearing a pink snowsuit went zooming by as I photographed this couple. It's not the best shot, from their series but it was so unique that I just had to share. Adorable kidlets - Saskatoon family photographers

I know that sometimes it seems like I've hired models to pretend to be families so my blog is filled with super good looking people, but the truth is, these are just ordinary families like yours. This family happens to be family. My sister-in-law, her hubby, and their adorable kidlets (OK, I know kidlets isn't a word, but it describes them perfectly:)) went to the Saskatoon forestry farm on a cool fall day for their session. We happened to get there shortly before they closed. It was a very quick session, but we're glad we did it. The leaves were perfect that day! Here are just a few from our little session:

Mistik Acres - DIY weddings

Are you a DIY (Do it yourself) bride? Doing things yourself for your wedding can be a huge cost saver, but it is also a lot of work! If you're looking for beautiful organic flowers for your special day and want to do all the arranging, check out Mistik Acres (http://www.mistikacres.blogspot.com/). It happens to be my parents business. They are located near Wakaw, and grow all of their flowers on their farm. They pride themselves in not using any chemicals, and sell to local flower shops and at the Saskatoon farmers market in the summer months.

If stress is already a factor in your special day, this probably isn't something for you, however if you are willing to spend the day before your wedding arranging bouquets and making boutonnieres, than you may want to consider using fresh locally grown flowers.

We did this for our wedding and had no regrets. The only draw backs were that you can't be picky about what type/color of flowers you use. The seasons determine what types of flowers are blooming at what time of year. If we've had a hot, rainy spring, different flowers will be blooming in July than if we had a dry cool spring. If you have a special color theme you want to stick with, this may not be the best option for you. Joanne, at Mistik Acres, suggests getting married in August or early September for the best variety of flowers.

I'm not going to lie, it was a lot of work to do the day before the wedding, but we made sure to have everything else finished and ready to go, so this was our only 'job' to do the day before the wedding. Although it was hard, it was worth it to have something so personal for our special day.

Double the fun - Saskatoon family photographers

This mom emailed me asking to do a fall family session of her family. She said she had twin 2 year old boys. 2 year olds are a little tricky to capture, because they pretty much do what they want when they want, and don't want to sit still (but who can blame them, really??). So when I heard that there were two 2 year olds, I was a little nervous about what I was going to get and if I could even get the whole family in one frame?

Once I met this family, it was peanuts. The boys have such different personalities, it was so neat to watch them. They play so different, one is a mama's boy, while the other is daddy's. They listed so well, and we were able to get some great shots. My fav's are the ones of them just being boys, playing together and having a good time, walking, and holding hands. As you can see, they were really good at being cute:)!

yoga maternity - Saskatoon maternity photographers

I met this glowing mama-to-be in my prenatal yoga class. We started chatting and found out that not only did we have babies due around the same time, but we both have Boston terriers. Well our Daisy is crossed with a pug, but close enough. Anyone who knows a Boston terrier knows how much energy they have, so we had a couple of puppy play dates before our babies were born so our pups could burn off some energy.

I wasn't going to take on anymore sessions when I was about 3 weeks to my due date, when 'L' asked me to do some maternity photos for her. I told her that I wasn't going to take on anymore sessions, and she was like, oh, well I do a private prenatal yoga with my hubby in our yard and I would love some images from our session. How could I say no?

So I trucked over to her house only a couple of weeks to my due date, feeling as large as a house on a +30 summer day, and we did their session. I thought if she can do yoga being 8 months preggo in this heat, I can photograph it:). Man, am I ever glad I did! We got some really unique images. Here are just a few....

This little man came into the world almost two months early. We did his first photo shoot when he was a couple months old, yet he still weighed less than an average newborn. He was so nice and tiny, and so well behaved. What a joy to photograph!

Thankful - Saskatoon photography

This last weekend was thanksgiving and this year, I feel more thankful than ever. I love this holiday, because it reminds us to reflect on all of the things that we're thankful for. I am so thankful for my wonderful family and friends. I'm thankful to have a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food on the table. I have an amazing husband, who has been in my life for over 5 years now. I am so thankful for him, and everything he does for me. I am also thankful for you, whether you are a client or someone who just checks my blog regularly, it's so great to know we have people who keep supporting us and love our work as much as we love doing it. Lastly, I'm so thankful for our beautiful daughter, Rylie. This year, I am most thankful for her and all the joy that she brings into our lives. I can't imagine what our lives would be like without her in it. I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving weekend, and have so many great things to be thankful for.

We photographed this wedding back at the end of June, I was quite preggo (just 3 weeks before my due date), but still feeling awesome. Since I was so pregnant, I hired an amazing photographer, Crystal of Joi photography (www.joiphoto.com), to help me out. The day was perfect. It started out sunny and warm, and ended with a cool breeze, some dark clouds and a little bit of rain for good luck.

We were lucky to have an awesome prop to use.... the brides bright yellow mustang. It was so fun to get her on it for a few shots! I tried out some new ideas and kept with some old ones. It turned out to be such a great day, with some of my favourite images to date.

Crystal also got some shots of me 'in action' with my huge belly! Too funny! Anyway, I will quit yapping now, and let you enjoy their beautiful images. Great couple + great wedding party +great props = One awesome day!

As I sit here and type, our beautiful baby girl sleeps on my chest, and I have to admit, it is a feeling like no other, and a skill I'm sure will be mastering over the next few months. Rylie Mya arrived 8 days late on July 29th at 4:04pm. Weighing a whooping 7lbs 1oz, and 19 inches long, and as cute as a button.

At 5 days old, I took out my camera and did a mini session with our little princess. Here are a few of my favourite images from our shoot. I thought that I might have the most photographed child in Saskatoon, however once sleep deprivation kicks in, I'm finding it hard to find time to have a shower let alone doing a photo shoot of our little one. I promise I will continue posting pictures of her, it just may not be as often as I thought.

My hubby and I are settling into home life nicely, enjoying every second of our newest addition. We won't be taking on any more sessions until October, and are starting to book up already. This is Olivia, she is the owner of The Balanced Body in Saskatoon. She specializes in Pilates classes, personal training, and running clinics, among other things. She needed some professional photos for her website, and gave me a call.

I have since done personal training with her as well as taken part in her Pilates classes. I have loved both! I never thought I would be into Pilates, in fact I had no desire what so ever to try it. I ended up having some back problems and guess what the doctor suggested I do? You guessed it.... Pilates. As it turns out I love it! It's not super hard that once you do it you never want to do it again, but it is definitely challenging, and all my back issues had cleared up. I would highly suggest taking part in one of her classes, she is a great instructor and the class sizes are small, which I love. Due Date - July 21st

Well here we are, it's July 21st, our due date, and still no baby. Instead of being in the hospital welcoming our bundle of joy, I'm in my office editing a wedding. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at this beautiful couple, I was just hoping that our little peanut would have arrived by now.

I've come to the realization that they come when they want, no matter how much you walk, drink raspberry tea, take baths, or get acupuncture. These baby's really have a mind of their own from day 1, and it will come when it's ready. I'm really hoping that this is a sign that we will have a laid back baby. I'm sure that isn't how it works, but one can hope, right?

So now we play the waiting game... I'll keep you posted with any news!

The following are a couple of images from a shoot I did with Gina (www.ginasportraits.com), back in April when we were in Banff for a photography convention. I was around 6 months preggo and Gina wanted to head down by the river to get some maternity shots using a blanket from her hotel room. We did the shoot in about 10 minutes, it was around -5 that morning, so it was a little chilly considering the attire I was wearing. Either way, it was worth every minute (and goose bump). The images we got were amazing! Sometimes you just have to trust the photographer and do what they say, even if it's stripping down in below zero temperatures and standing on an ice covered river.

Being a photographer here in Saskatoon, I always get asked, well who does your photos? The answer is whoever I feel is a right fit for the job. I rarely use the same photographer twice. As much as I love this session as much as the last, I love to work with different photographers and see what tricks they have up their sleeves, and to see their different styles.

It was finally time for us to get in front of the camera again. My husband and I, and our dog Daisy geared up for our maternity session. Huge thank you to Lisa Landrie of Shutterbug photography for doing this session for us. She was a lot of fun to work with and we've got some awesome shots to show off!

So here I am, at 33 weeks pregnant! With only 1.5 months until our due date, still feeling great, looking a little chubbier than usual, but that is normal (or so I will keep telling myself:)). It was a lot of fun being in front of the camera again. We didn't find out what we are expecting, we're pretty sure it's going to be a baby, just unsure if it's going to be a boy or a girl. I've had very strong suspicions it's been both. I love to hear what others think it's going to be. What do you think?

As you may or may not know, I (Mandy) am having a baby. We are due in the middle of July, so I'm taking some time off from shooting. We will be booking sessions until the end of June, however we are almost all booked up. We have 3 more sessions available from now until June 21st. If you would like to have your session with us this spring, please let us know ASAP, so you can snag up one of our last available sessions until the fall.

We are thinking of slowing getting back into the swing of things in October, but unsure of how many sessions we will be taking on. Thank you so much for all the well wishes, and understanding that sometimes personal lives have to come before business. Handsome little prince - Saskatoon maternity photographers

When I first met this little prince I felt like he had such a calm wonderful soul. Something about his presence made me feel so at ease (his mom said she doesn't agree when she is up at 3am with him, lol).

He was born 3 weeks early, just deciding that he wanted to come early. We did this session when he was around 9 days old, it was before his actual due date. I can't get over how adorable he is! I'm not sure if it's because I'm 8 months preggo and have severe baby fever, but I just want to eat him up:). I'm sure all you blog followers must agree he's a handsome little prince.

This family was so much fun to work with. This little girl loves to read books and dance! When I went over to do their consultation, she had all of us (her parents and myself) up and dancing to her favourite tunes. It was so adorable. We started their session in their home, and ventured out looking for some nice spring puddles to play in, but they were all still frozen on that April morning. Either way, we still got some great shots.

This handsome little man was almost a Christmas baby, he entered the world on boxing day. We photographed him when he was around 1 month old. Isn't he so handsome? It seems we get to photograph the cutest babies, and this one is no exception! His hair naturally goes into a faux-hawk. How cute is that?! We hope to photograph him as he grows into a little boy.

Today, I've (Mandy) decided to do a personal blog post. For those of you that know me, and/or follow my blog, you're awesome! And, you know that I'm expecting a baby in a couple of months. For those of you just joining us, welcome! We are so excited to welcome the newest addition into our family. For me, pregnancy has been an amazing experience. It's definitely had it's ups and downs, but the ups seem to be what sticks with me. I thought it would be fun to do a list of all the things I didn't know about pregnancy until I got pregnant. There are the obvious things, like morning sickness and being tired all the time, and frequent trips to the ladies room, but I wanted to talk about the stuff I had no idea about until the time had come.

Here is a top 10 list of things I didn't know about pregnancy until I got pregnant:

10. Sleeping on your left side is what is recommended. It's a bummer for all you tummy sleepers out there.

9. You can't have any sushi with raw fish. Not a big deal to me. I love the shrimp tempura rolls anyhow.

8. People tend to stare at you when your sporting a bump, and are often much nicer to you. Too bad society wouldn't treat everyone as if they were preggo, minus the staring, it just gets weird.

7. You will have to buy bigger underwear. Maybe that's too much information, but I had no idea!

6. Feeling dizzy and almost fainting is completely normal. It would have been great to know when I almost fainted in line at the grocery store.

5. I've heard of food cravings, but was shocked when I had food aversions. I still can't eat chicken breast or steak, two foods that I normally love. It just grosses me out!

4. Nosebleeds are common in pregnancy. Who would have thought?

3. A body pillow will be your new best friend. Hubby hates it, but I can't sleep without it.

2. Feeling the baby move around in there is something I had no idea what it would feel like, but it's probably my favourite thing so far. I think it's something I'm really going to miss once I have this little gaffer.

1. Males dogs absolutely love pregnant women. Well at least the male dogs that I know all of a sudden love me. I swear, they could tell you your pregnant before you even find out.

Here are a couple of photos of me at 25 weeks. I'm now 29 weeks, and growing larger everyday. That is around 7 months for all of you trying to do the math in your head, LOL.

Wedding in paradise - Saskatoon photographers

First, I should give you a heads up, this is probably the biggest blog post we've ever made. The story of the day was just too good to leave out any images, with the exception of the reception, which were just your typical speech/dance shots:). I had a hard time narrowing it down the day this much, there were just so many great images to choose from.

Back in February, my husband and I jumped on a plane and headed south to the Barcelo resort in the beautiful the Mayan Riviera, to photograph the wedding of a wonderful couple. I can't say enough great things about this couple, their family, and their friends. They really made us feel so welcome and we fit in perfectly.

The day of the wedding, we started off taking some shots of the guys getting ready, then went off to see the bride. The best man came with me to deliver the gift from the groom to the bride which was diamond necklace. It was beautiful! Once the bride was ready to go, her and I headed downstairs to meet up with the groom. We did the reveal in a private setting in the courtyard, just down from our rooms. I love getting that first look in a more intimate private setting. It went off without a hitch.

The wedding party met up with us soon after where we battled the hot sun, but had sooo much fun. They were a hoot! The ceremony was located on a more private beach area, with rocks in the background. It was nice to not have people in speedo's in the background of the ceremony pictures or kids splashing around in the water behind them. It was such a beautiful, private ceremony.

We got a quick group shot of all the attendees of the wedding, then we stole the couple to get some romantic couple shots. The sun had started to set, the clouds rolled in, and the lighting was perfect! It's a good thing the resort was so beautiful, because when it started to sprinkle, we headed inside and used the beautiful setting of the lobby's for the backdrop. They ended up with a great variety of images.

It ended up being such a perfect day! Thanks so much for bringing us along to capture your special day!!!

We photographed this great looking couple last fall. It was an awesome session. We included the bride-to-be's babies, her pups, as well as the groom-to-be's baby, his hot car! It was great working with these sweet props, but even more so, with this great couple. They are sure to have a beautiful wedding in Hawaii. Too bad we weren't able to go along for the ride:). I suppose we can't complain too much, we did get to go to Mexico this year for a destination wedding. Those images are coming soon...

This adorable family of 3 was a blast to photograph. The little boy just celebrated his first birthday and was all smiles. We did manage to get a few serious ones too, and I'm not sure which ones I like more. I know mom's typically go for the smiles, but I tend to gravitate towards the others. Either way, it was impossible for this little boy to have a bad expression. He was so cute, smiling or not.

I made cinnamon buns for the first time ever yesterday. They turned out delicious. This one was my second one today.... not sure how often I will make them, because at this rate I will be eating 4 a day. Either way, I will enjoy every last one.
